The Shine Initiative's Refresh Fest: A Day to Celebrate Mental Health
The Shine Initiative is hosting its 2nd Annual Refresh Fest on Sunday, September 17th from 1-4pm at WPI’s campus in Worcester, MA. This free event is open to all and will feature a day of fun, food, music and activities to promote mental health and well-being for youth.
The Shine Initiative is a non-profit organization that combats discrimination and destigmatizes mental health conditions in youth. Refresh Fest is their way of bringing the community together to celebrate mental health and promote wellness.
“We know that mental health is just as important as physical health,” said Sarah Smith, founder of the Shine Initiative. “Refresh Fest is a way for us to show young people that they are not alone and that there are resources available to help them.”
The event will include live music, food trucks, games and activities, and mental health resources from various organizations, including the Center for Environmental Therapeutics (CET). CET provides resources for natural therapies that address mental health issues, including Seasonal Affective Disorder and other mood disorders. We offer support and resources for all ages, including unique assessments.
Stop by CET’s table for a surprise gift while supplies last!
The event is a great opportunity for youth to learn about mental health and get the resources they need. It is also a chance for families and friends to come together and support each other.
The event will be held rain or shine. There will be free parking available on campus. The event will also feature:
- Mini yoga sessions
- Mini Meditation Sessions
- Aroma Therapy
- Mobile Mural Community Painting
- Succulent building station
- Mindful temporary tattoos & alphabet beading station
The Shine Initiative hopes that Refresh Fest will help to break down the stigma around mental health and encourage young people to seek help if they need it.
