A reader asks:
We are a military family that moves every three years. However, we all suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). What states would be best for us? People have recommended Florida, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado.
Answer:
According to CET’s data from a national survey, SAD prevalence rises gradually from a low in the southern tier of the country (for example, southern Florida) to the middle tier (at 38 degrees latitude, the level of Washington DC). From that point further north, there appears to be a steady level all the way up to the Canadian border. Denver is at about 40 degrees latitude, so according to the survey results, it would not be a prime residential destination for a family with SAD!
